The Kids' Writing Club


If your child loves to write as well as discover new things, this wordshop will make for perfect summer fun.  The Kids' Writing Club is an adventure into different styles of writing, based on a variety of inspirational activities--from yoga to improvisational exercises to cartooning to drawing to music.  Kids will do everything from create "scripts" for skits to write personal essays and/or blogs to crafting song lyrics, and much more.  Led by a professional writer, this workshop provides an opportunity for exploration within a framework of nurturing feedback!





Stories: A Writing Wordshop


Does your child love, love, love writing stories, reading stories, hearing stories?  In this dynamic wordshop, he or she can explore the elements of solid storytelling, including theme, plot character, dialogue, and more.  Wordshop participants will learn creative ways to strengthen stories-such as "character dossiers," "internal dialogue," and "freezeframing" alternate endings.  Participants will also discover how to tell stories from various points of view, experiment with different forms and structures, and fine-tune stories with the help of nurturing feedback! Children will even be give an opportunity to learn how to illustrate stories through the use of drawing and cartooning techniques.





The Way of the Poet


Does your child see things through sensitive eyes?  Does he or she like to explore images, emotion, language?  This class encourages individual expression and creativity in the world of words.  There will be plenty of opportunity to craft imaginative free verse, discover new poetic forms, and find rhyme and reason-not to mention creative license-in this fun, power-packed "wordshop" that will challenge and nurture the poet inside.  Each participant will create a book of poetry based on inspiration exercises-from the Poetry Making Machine to poetry passports to poems based on Kim Wright's "The Magic Box" and Kenneth Koch's "Wishes, Dreams, and Lies."  Your child will also have the opportunity to write song lyrics to accompany simple tunes.  What's more, he or she will have tons of fun as you taste, feel, shade, shape, and savor this most compact of all writing genres.
